Sunday was a massive success with our first Surfers Against Sewage Paddle Out Protest. The weather couldn’t have been better - sunny, hot, and perfectly calm... until of course we decided to have a go at a paddleboard race. That’s when a light onshore breeze decided to kick in, making things just that little bit more challenging.

Coming Together for Clean Water

It was amazing to see so many people coming down, from families with young kids to experienced water lovers. Kitesurfers, paddleboarders, windsurfers, wingers, and sea swimmers all connected over a cause that affects all of us who love the water.

Many people got creative, making signs in support of the cause including messages demanding cleaner waters. We all paddled out together, holding them up for photos to be shared online. Paul encouraged everyone to tag Southern Water, making sure the messages couldn’t be ignored.

Why Was It Organised?

This wasn’t just a fun day out. Our paddle out was part of a national movement, one of 43 events across the UK organised and promoted by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). We all share a love for the ocean, but it’s under threat. The broken water industry continues to pollute our waters, and it's time for a change.

What Happened on the Day?

We kicked things off with a briefing from the amazing Paul, who helped organize the event. Once everyone knew the plan, we hit the water together, making our voices heard against sewage pollution.

After the protest, we kept the energy going with a fun paddleboard race led by our new kitesurfing instructor, Michelle who's an experienced SUP racer! Michelle took the win but was a good sport, letting second place Dan take the prize t-shirt home.

Why is Surfers Against Sewage Important?

Surfers Against Sewage is at the forefront of the fight for clean, safe waters in the UK. They’re pushing for real change in 2025, a big year for their #EndSewagePollution campaign. SAS is working to ensure the Independent Commission makes recommendations to the government that prioritise our right to clean water.

Looking Ahead

We’re proud to support SAS and will continue to do so. This was just the beginning, and we’re already planning to make this an annual event. If you missed out this time, don’t worry, you can join us next year. Together, we can protect the waters we love.

Thanks again to everyone who came down, got involved, and made some noise.
